Jas Cheema, MA
President/CEO

For over a decade Jas Cheema has been instrumental in building bridges and fostering a cross-cultural understanding between the ethnic communities in the Lower Mainland. She has been a leader in the field of inter-cultural communication, diversity, community engagement and racism-free communities and organizations. She is an Associate Faculty Member with Royal Roads University. In addition she presently serves as the Board Chair, Surrey Public Library; Vice Chair, Soroptomists International Surrey-Delta; Advisory Board Member, School of Communication-Royal Roads University; Mediator, Surrey Neighboring Faiths Program. In her role as a consultant, she has helped private, public and non-profit organizations address their diversity and community engagement issues. She has published many articles about social, cultural and racial issues. She has a Masters in Professional Communication with a Specialization in International and Intercultural Communications.

Her work has been recognized; she is the recipient of the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, Surrey Leader of the Year, Flare Volunteer of the Year and Woman of Distinction awards for her services to the multicultural community, and the Griffin Award for her contributions to the Canadian Society through the art of writing.

Huf Mullick

Huf Mullick was a former member of the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG) who recently retired from full-time service. With over 25 years of experience with the Canadian Forces, he’s a seasoned communicator and peacekeeper who was influential in conveying Canadian values to war torn regions around the world. He’s also a proficient academic writer, instructor and public speaker who has composed and delivered speeches to high level officials within the Department of National Defence, conducted and given media interviews, and trained CF recruiters to communicate and recruit effectively within the different ethnic communities in Canada.

In his role as the South Asian Coordinator with the CFRG Huf created the “Building Blocks of Diversity Recruiting”, a template for diversifying the forces. He facilitated communication between Canadian Forces personnel, the media, academic and business communities, and the South Asian, Aboriginal and Asian communities. Huf was awarded the Commander of CFRG citation. He was also nominated for the Surrey Delta Immigrant Services Society Cultural Diversity Awards three years in a row and as a result was invited to deliver a presentation to the City of Surrey Cultural Diversity Committee. In addition he has also received two Officer in Charge Certificates from the Surrey Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for his service to the country and the community.

He is currently enrolled in a Master of Arts program in Professional Communication with an International and Intercultural Specialization.


Dr. Zhenyi Li

Dr. Zhenyi Li is an assistant professor and program head for the MA degree program in Professional Communication with a Specialization in Intercultural and International Communication at Royal Roads University. He is a certified IDI administrator and interpreter. He teaches MA courses such as "Introduction to Intercultural Communication" and "Intercultural Training Workshop". Dr. Li is a nominee at RRU for his teaching excellence for both online and face-to-face teaching. He was awarded as the best trainer by the International Research Institute at New York. He published a book and several articles on intercultural communication. Dr. Li has supervised a handful of doctoral and masters theses on intercultural health care. Dr. Li's paper on intercultural competence for health care education has been accepted to the 5th International Conference on Intercultural Communication Competence in 2008.
